ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC ART
My heritage is my inspiration. To be able to capture and preserve this through art, is my pleasure.
- I Gede Padma

THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD GALLERY ARTIST

Up Close and Personal
We spoke with the artist about their art and their journey to creating beautiful work.

I Gede Padma

Hailing from Singaraja, in the far north of Bali, Padma started painting at 15 years old. As with many artists, his reason for starting on this path was the legacy from his family and his villages’ artistic heritage.

IN THE STUDIO

Padma's inspiration comes from the traditional Balinese dance. Something he holds very dear, as he feels it captures the true spirit of his homeland.

Freely expressing his imagination in his art, he hopes that his impressionist / modern paintings will live on for generations and ensure the Balinese traditions are not lost.

WORK

For Padma, the most frustrating thing about being an artist is his lack of avenues to showcase his work. Saying that, he's successfully exhibited his work at many exhibitions, internationally.

  •  1995: National Museum Jakarta
  • 1998: Bantara Budaya Jakarta
  • 1999: Sunjin Gallery, Singapore
  • 2000: Sydney, Australia
  • 2002: Bondowoso, Sumatra
  • 2008: Anton Gallery, Jakarta
  • 2009: Darga Gallery, Bali

"I've been lucky to be able to show my work at these exhibitions. Always a proud moment for me. But I'd love to be able to reach even further. I truly believe in my craft and I hope that the integrity of art is maintained. Not least because of the joy it brings to its owners."
