I Ketut Sumantara

Ketut started painting at the very young age of 11. The village of Sukawati, where Ketut is from, is the art capital of Bali and so art was all around him and engrained in the culture of his community. This was the key driver for him to pick up a brush and start creating.

What started out as a hobby very quickly turned into a passion, something he describes as a ‘feeling in his heart’. This propelled him to pursue a formal education in art to learn more about technique and explore his own personal style.

IN A STUDIO

25 years on and Ketut's skills have led him down two distinct artistic styles.

With Mother Earth as his inspiration, realism challenges his exceptional fine art skills and impressionism allows Ketut to channel his creative expression of nature, through his eyes.

WORK

Ketut's relationship with art is one of personal growth and discovery. Art to Ketut is something that's an extension of himself. A life journey. An ongoing path of discovery.

Having exhibited his work across Indonesia, Ketut's hope is that his work continues to reach out to people. "Art creates unspoken communication. This is a powerful contradiction and why I love the mystery that art evokes."

Helping local children who are less fortunate than ourselves is part of what The Yellow Brick Road Gallery is all about. Nothing makes us happier than seeing the smile on the children's faces when they have a brush and some paint to go create. It's truly wonderful.
