We spoke with the artist about their art and their journey to creating beautiful work.

Zulham Damanik

Damanik was born in North Sumatra in Indonesia but now calls Bali his home. Since a young age, he’s always had a burning ambition and natural love of art which eventually led him to Jakarta to begin studying Art and fulfilling his ambition.

Searching for new inspiration, ZD, as he likes to be known, moved to Bali in 2004 and found a new sense of artistic spirit which he continues to express in his work.

IN THE STUDIO

Most of ZD's paintings and ideas are inspired by the nature around him, human emotions, sensibility and invigoration.

Acrylic on canvas is his choice of material.

"Every time I pass a blank canvas I feel something explode inside of me. It's not something I can explain or pass on to someone else … but it's always the beginning of a new creation. It takes my soul into another life dimension where the meaning of life is in every corner."

WORK

His paintings have been collected by both domestic and international art lovers and he's exhibited at sole and group exhibitions in Indonesia and overseas.

Helping local children who are less fortunate than ourselves is part of what The Yellow Brick Road Gallery is all about. Nothing makes us happier than seeing the smile on the children's faces when they have a brush and some paint to go create. It's truly wonderful.
