We spoke with the artist about their art and their journey to creating beautiful work.

Tagel

Born in Ubud, central Bali, in 1972, Tagel still lives in his hometown. Art has a long history in the family with both his father and grandfather being professional painters. Tagel describes art as something that’s in his genes, a skill he’s inherited and something that was always going to be his destiny.

IN THE STUDIO

Despite practising his craft since a young age and studying art professionally, Tagel believes that art is never something that is truly mastered. Rather, it's something that's continuously learnt over time as you go through life.

Tagel's inspiration for his pieces come from 'life's reality'. This is the key reason why he believes his art evolves over time, as he sees things through different lenses as he journeys through life.

WORK

Tagel shows his work in a number of galleries but his biggest challenge is having a broader platform to showcase his talent.

Helping local children who are less fortunate than ourselves is part of what The Yellow Brick Road Gallery is all about. Nothing makes us happier than seeing the smile on the children's faces when they have a brush and some paint to go create. It's truly wonderful.
