We spoke with the artist about their art and their journey to creating beautiful work.

Cube

Janoer, or Cube as he’s know in the street circuits, got inspired by his art teacher and used to draw day in, day out, from power rangers to dragon ball characters. His first encounter with Graffiti was through his sister who had a Hip Hop magazine and his love for Graffiti was born.

“Creating art using spray paint is a totally different ball game. It’s super challenging and pushes me to grow as an artist.”

Cube is a member of several international graffiti crews, in Indonesia, Singapore and Germany.

 

IN THE STUDIO

Cube is a full time artist and along with his street creations, he's also been commissioned to do several murals in and around Indonesia.

When he's not drawing or creating, Cube loves his Vespa and everything to do with it. His inspiration comes from what he sees as he tours on his Vespa, as well as from the shapes and parts of his beloved machine.

WORK

A challenge for Cube is making sure he stays relevant in the St Art world. Originality and longevity are both key aspects to a successful mural. And in the ever growing and evolving world of street art, Cube is constantly on the look out for new inspiration.

"The stigma of graffiti is still largely negative. But if we take a closer look there is very high artistic value that goes into the work out there, not least, some of the key messages that graffiti is communicating."

Helping local children who are less fortunate than ourselves is part of what The Yellow Brick Road Gallery is all about. Nothing makes us happier than seeing the smile on the children's faces when they have a brush and some paint to go create. It's truly wonderful.
